Poutama

He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata

What is the most important thing in the world?

It is people, it is people, it is people.

Poutama means Stairway to Learning and is this our Year 7 and 8 team.

Our classes are innovative, dynamic environments preparing our students for an easy transition to high school. We value and encourage self-management, creativity and achieving personal bests. Everything we do at North Street Intermediate focusses on developing skills students will need to be ready for the unknown future.

Our students attend a Specialisation day once a week which is run here at North Street School. Subjects covered in these sessions are Robotics, Science, Hard Materials, Food Technology, Soft Materials, The Arts and many other specialist subjects.

Other learning opportunities that are offered to our students are Elite Fitness, Epro 8, Kids Lit Quiz, International Languages, Career's Day, and Speech Competitions to name just a few.

Our students also have a chance to participate in the Elite Sport competition interschool sporting competition that involves 10 schools around the Manawatu/ Wairarapa. The sports include; Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Netball, Rugby, Touch, Football and a few more.

All Year 7 and 8 students have the opportunity to participate in the William Pike Challenge Award. William is a living legend, a popular inspirational speaker, and a role model for NZ youth, and he is a leader in the outdoor and education industries. William is a living, breathing example to people of all ages that anyone can overcome adversity and challenges, leading to a more fulfilling life.

The William Pike Challenge Award is an outdoor activity programme that provides Intermediate Schools, Full Primary Schools and community groups with support, resources and motivation to facilitate Education Outside The Classroom (EOTC). The WPCA is tailor-made to fit each group’s needs and provides a gateway to new experiences, opportunities and a means of developing a positive youth culture for the nation.
